SBL’s Geospatial Services division supports transport infrastructure projects in many countries around the world. This is primarily through our 2D and 3D modelling of features, assets and structures, from ground, mobile or airborne laser point cloud and Lidar scanning. These models support new build and upgrade design projects, level 2 BIM compliance, As-Built surveys, maintenance and facilities management, asset management and Smart Cities planning and integration.

We work in partnership with a number of high-profile surveying and engineering companies. Our partners capture the laser scans, pass the post-processed point clouds to us for feature extraction, and take delivery of our modelled data. Outputs include 2D attributed cross sections and Sc0 clearance files (especially for tunnels), 3D attributed wireframes, 3D Surface Models (DSM), 3D building models (LOD 1, 2 and 3).

The data can be delivered in a wide range of file CAD or GIS file formats. Our models are typically delivered as single models that have the 2D cross sections and 3D DSM embedded in the 3D wireframe. This allows different disciplines within an organisation to access, use and modify the same version of the model at any given time – a crucial component of BIM compliance.
